Puerto Vallarta’s Food Scene Gets Another International Nod 🍽️🌴

There is another reason to be proud of Puerto Vallarta — our food scene is once again getting international attention.

Two Puerto Vallarta restaurants have been nominated in the 2026 World Culinary Awards, putting local dining in the spotlight alongside restaurants from across Mexico and Latin America.

Gaviotas, at the Sheraton Buganvilias Resort & Convention Center, is nominated for Latin America’s Best Fine Dining Hotel Restaurant. Gaviotas won the category in both 2024 and 2025, making this its third consecutive year among the finalists.

Over in Marina Vallarta, Mikado, the Japanese restaurant at Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, is competing for Mexico’s Best Hotel Restaurant and is one of 14 restaurants on the national shortlist.

More Than a Beach Destination

Those of us who live here already know that Puerto Vallarta is about much more than beaches and sunsets.

Our community has an extraordinary range of food — neighborhood taco stands, small family-owned restaurants, traditional Mexican kitchens, international cuisine and fine dining.

Recognition like this helps put a spotlight on the people working throughout Vallarta’s hospitality industry and gives both residents and visitors another reason to explore the city.

Voting for the 2026 World Culinary Awards closes August 14, and the winners are scheduled to be announced in October.
